Government establishes a mosque in Dhoonidhoo Island

A mosque has been established in Dhoonidhoo Island for people who work on the island and for the use of visitors. The mosque, which can accommodate 250 people was built with the aid of the government and anonymous donors.

The mosque was officially inaugurated by the Minister of Home Affairs Azleen Ahmed, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad and Deputy Commissioner of Police Ahmed Saudi.

Speaking to the attendees after performing the Duhur prayers at the mosque on Thursday, Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Ziyad said that it is a Maldivian tradition to build mosques on inhabited islands. He said that building mosques has been an Islamic custom.

Maldives Police Service took part in the construction of the process, in addition to experts. Until the construction of this mosque, police working at Dhoonidhoo had great difficulties in performing daily prayers. The new mosque would be a great convenience, according to the police service.
