After discussions with the cabinet, and as empowered by Article 56 of the Decentralisation Act, President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, has today designated that the city council of Fuvahmulaku will get equivalent authorities and provisions as Malé or Addu city council.
The President made this decision in order to provide quality services to citizens and to give equal and uniform authorities to all three cities. This change is affected in a view to ensure existing services provided by the city councils to the people, is of sufficient quality and continues without disruption.
The President gave the City status decree to Fuvahmulaku, as enabled by the Decentralization Act, on 22nd September 2016.
