Health Minister praises efforts towards improving health sector

Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim says that the establishment of a dialysis centre in Vilimale' Hospital is an important initiative by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, towards improving the health sector in the country.

Speaking at the function held at Vilimale' Hospital after inaugurating the dialysis centre, the Health Minister said that President Yameen's administration has progressed over the past years. The Minister said that President Yameen's policy of providing all inclusive health service to the nation had proven to be very successful. Minister Nazim said that it is noteworthy, that at the beginning of the current administration, there were only 18 beds that could provide dialysis treatments, which had now been increased to 45 beds.

Director of Villimale' Hospital Ahmed Zahir said two machines would be used to conduct dialysis service and added that the service would be developed in the future with the addition of new machines. Speaking at the function, acting medical director of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Dr. Ali Latheef highlighted that additional treatment would be available from IGMH to the patients receiving treatments at Villimale' Hospital. Specialists from the hospital would treat patients in Villimale' Dialysis Centre twice a week, according to IGMH.

With the establishment of the centre, the number of the centres providing dialysis service across the country sums up to seven.
