2 Maldivians in critical condition after speedboat crash

ADK Hospital has said that 2 of the 14 people injured in last night's accident between a speedboat and a supply vessel, are in critical condition. 

The accident occurred when a speedboat carrying employees of Summer Island Maldives collided with a supply vessel near One and Only Reethi Rah. The injured were initially taken to One and Only Reethi Rah where they were treated after which all the injured were transferred to Male' at midnight.

ADK Hospital has released three people after treatment while the condition of two Maldivians remain critical.

Minister of Defence Adam Shareef Umar visited ADK Hospital to check on the condition of those injured in the accident. The minister said that people injured in such accidents would receive immediate assistance by the government and that an investigation into the accident has been launched. He called on travelers to adhere with regulations set for sea travel while travelling in this weather.

Speaking with PSM News, a witness, one of the first responders on site, said that some people had already lost consciousness when they arrived at the scene. He added that the speedboat was severely damaged.
