70th World Health Assembly concludes in Geneva

The 70th World Health Assembly has concluded in Geneva, Switzerland. The assembly was attended by representatives from 194 member countries.

The Maldivian delegation that participated in the World Health Assembly was led by the Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim. During the assembly, the minister delivered his statement, titled, "Advancing the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development: Building Better Systems for Health". In the sidelines of the World Health Assembly, the minister met his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, China, Malaysia and Cyprus.

At the assembly, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus was elected as the World Health Organization's new director-general by the World Health Assembly. At this year's assembly, a special function was held to mark the elimination of malaria from Maldives and Sri Lanka.

Aside from the main agenda, the assembly offers a platform for delegate meetings between member states, global health NGOs and international donor agencies.
