The Non-resident Ambassador of Greece, Panos Kalogeropoulos, presented his Letter of Credence to President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, this morning, at the President’s Office.
At the ceremony, the President conveyed good wishes to the President of Greece and congratulated the Ambassador on the commencement of his term as the Ambassador of Greece to the Maldives.
During the call, the President noted the long history of relations between Maldives and Greece, and remarked that the Maldives attaches high importance to its relations with Greece. In this regard, the President noted the valuable relief assistance after the 2004 tsunami and thanked the Government of Greece for the continued support and cooperation extended over the last 34 years.
During the discussions, the President stressed on closer cooperation between the two countries to address the important issues of climate change and terrorism. The President also expressed his confidence in further enhancing the relations between the two countries during the Ambassadors tenure.
The Ambassador concurred with the President and expressed the need for further cooperation in areas of mutual concern, including climate change and counter-terrorism and highlighted on enhancing trade relations between Greece and the Maldives.
The President was accompanied at the call by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim and the Minister of State for Foreign Relations at the President’s Office, Mohamed Naseer.
