Japan donates disaster reduction equipment to Maldives

The Government of Japan has donated Disaster Reduction Equipment worth MVR 153 million to the Government of Maldives.

At a ceremony held on Wednesday, the aid was handed to Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) by Acting Head of Disaster Management Centre Fathimath Thasneem. The Japanese Non-Project Grant Aid equipment was received by the Commander of Fire and Rescue Services, Colonel Abdulla Zuhuree. The disaster reduction Equipment includes, 70 fire extinguishing pump sets and 4 forklifts. Minister of Defense and National Security Adam Shareef Umar, and the Ambassador from Japan to Maldives and Vice Chief of Defense Force Brigadier General Ahmed Shadhid were present at the ceremony.

This year marks the 50th anniversary since the establishment of diplomatic ties between the Maldives and Japan. Japan has been one of the biggest bilateral development partners of the Maldives.
