Police name 3 for alleged involvement of Yameen Rasheed murder

Maldives Police Service attributes successful progress in the investigation into the murder of prominent blogger Yameen Rasheed, to the advice of foreign and local experts. The service revealed successful progress in the investigation in a press statement. The statement also revealed information on the three people who allegedly 'actively participated' in committing the crime.

As per the information provided by Maldives Police Service, various local government agencies and databases had been crucial aspects to scrutinize information during the investigation, the press statement said. The investigation team formed to inspect the murder, has been gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses and locating persons of interest and suspects from day one, according to Maldives police.

On the 15th of May, police issued a statement about the arrest of the seven suspects. Police have now revealed the three prime suspects who according to police, allegedly 'actively participated' in committing the crime. The prime suspects are Ismail Rasheed, 25, Ismail Haisham Rasheed, 21, and Ahmed Zihan Ismail, 22. All three prime suspects have criminal records, the police revealed.

The Police Service reiterated their commitment to utilize all available resources to find all culprits of this crime and to seek justice for Yameen Rasheed and his family.  The institution is currently coordinating with the Prosecutor General's Office to speed up judicial proceedings related to the case.
