Economic Ministry says no artificial eggs in Maldivian market

Ministry of Economic Development has requested the public to promptly inform the authorities, if they come across any artificial eggs.

Following local media reports of plastic eggs circulating in the market, Maldives Food and Drug Authority (FDA) took samples and conducted tests at their laboratories, according to the Economic Development Ministry. However, Economic Ministry said that the authorities have been unable to confirm the reports, with no unusual issues noticed.

Some customers purchased faulty eggs from a certain retail outlet, according to the media reports. However, the retail outlet denied the claims.

FDA had also been in contact with International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN), a global network of national food safety authorities, managed jointly by Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Health Organization (WHO). However, FDA has informed that no such issues have been reported to INFOSAN yet.

Meanwhile, Economic Ministry, following verification, had revealed that earlier claims about plastic rice in the market were also not true.
