Government slashes electricity tariff

Government has decided to decrease electricity tariffs from 10% to 15%.

This reduction has come into effect immediately and applies to the whole country.

The decision was made in the wake of the recent slash in import duty levied on petroleum products from 10% to 5%.

Earlier, State Trading Organization (STO) reduced prices of petrol following the change in import duty levied on petroleum products.

Parliament endorsed the Amendment Bill to the Import Export Actwhich reduced import duty levied on petroleum products, in June.
