Torrential rain causes floods in two islands

Torrential rain has caused flooding and damaged homes in the island of Villingili of Gaafu Alifu Atoll and Fonadhoo Island of Laamu Atoll.

Fonadhoo was hit with rain for three hours while Villingili experienced continuous heavy rain from last Saturday onwards. Flood caused minor damages to several households, according to sources.

Relevant authorities are working on stacking sacks of sands in houses affected by flooding. Flooding caused the drains in most houses in Villingili to overflow.

Maldives is currently experiencing heavy rains which have been attribute to the South West Monsoon.
