Ministry of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed has said that the fact that Velana International Airport is one of the fastest growing airport in the region is a worthy achievement for Maldivians to be proud of.
Minister Saeed made the remarks while speaking to media after his visit to oversee the ongoing development project at the airport. Government will continue in its effort to bring development to the nation regardless of what the opposition says, Minister said. Referring to the government's resolve to provide more prosperous lives for citizens, Minister Saeed said that President Yameen's government is the first government in history to bring such large scale development projects to the country. This is the only government which was also able to garner large numbers of foreign investments, he noted.

The mega development project at VIA will see expansion of runway and development of new terminals and other facilities at the airport. 63 hectors of land was reclaimed for the project. Work to being revetment of the newly reclaimed area of the airport, Managing Director of Maldives Airport Company, Adil Moosa said.
