The 44th Session of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) Meeting has begun in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire.
The OIC CFM is an annual meeting of the Foreign Ministers where member states express their positions and views, and take decisions on matters of mutual interest to the Muslims around the world. This years OIC CFM is joined by 26 Foreign Ministers. OIC Member States will present their statements on this year’s theme, “Youth, Peace and Development in a World of Solidarity”. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Asim will be delivering the Maldives Statement during the special session to be held tomorrow.
The two day meeting will also discuss key issues including issues of terrorism and extremism, Rohingya muslim minority issue, Islamophobia, extending solidarity amongst Islamic countries, cooperation amongst member states, addressing all manifestations of violence in the Muslim world, promoting and protecting the Islamic heritage of peace and tolerance, all of which makes, OIC CFM meetings highly important and relevant.

OIC has also initiated the implementation of the new OIC Plan of Action 2025 which focuses on supporting and mobilizing resources for development of necessary physical and institutional infrastructures as well as fostering regional integration and economic growth in OIC Member States. Along these lines, OIC has in the past years, initiated and assisted multiple developmental projects in a number of countries, by introducing simple technologies and projects to foster economic development, enhance market access and reach, and stabilize local economies.
OIC is an organization consisting of 57 member states, and was founded in 1969 to act as a collective voice for the Muslim world. The main objectives of the organization are to safeguard and protect the interests of the muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony.
