Education sector has gained notable achievements: Minister

Education Minster Dr. Aishath Shiham has stated that last year, the education sector of Maldives gained its most notable achievements in the 84 years since modern education system was introduced in the country.

The Education Minister made the remarks while speaking at the O' Level Top Achievers' Awards 2016 ceremony, which the Vice President, Abdulla Jihad, attended as chief guest. The O'level Top Achievers Awards 2016 was held at Dharubaaruge Convention Centre on Thursday night. He awarded the Trophy and certificate to those who attained 1st place in the O' Level Exams 2016.

Maldives is witnessing the sweet success of an all-inclusive education framework, where no child is left out of the system; something which was initiated and led by the vison for education by President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham stated while speaking at the ceremony. Education sector of the country made record breaking gains last year, since the country began modern education system 84 years ago, Minister Aishath Shiham stated. Last year saw 48 Maldivian students listed in the O'level top achievers list universally, with Maldivian students winning top spot in individual subjects such as English, Mathematics and Accounting, Minister said  

Describing last year's educational achievements as historical, the Minister said that this show the huge achievements being made in the education sector as a whole. During the function, Trophy and certificates were conferred to those who attained the top 10 results in O' Level Exams, locally and internationally and to those students who achieved top achievements in specific subjects in O' Level Exams 2016 in Maldives. Awards were conferred on behalf of the Ministry and the Presidents Office to top achievers in O'level and individual subjects.
