Attacks against Policemen is a warning - Home Minister

Minister of Home Affairs, Azleen Ahmed have expressed concern over the increase in brutal attacks and murders of Maldivian Policemen, citing that this is an alarming warning of threat and danger for the citizens. There are personals who has the motive of influencing the society with negativity against the Maldives Police Service, Home Minister said.

There is a faction of people who is pitting the society against the Maldivian Police Service, said the Minister while addressing the ceremony held to celebrate the Memorial Day. Some people are filling the society with negativity and influencing the citizens to go against the fundamentals of the peaceful society of Maldives, he said. These actions normally obstructs services of the police force, he added. He urged the importance of taking strict actions against conspiracies such as the plans of deadly threats to the policemen and their families.

While addressing the ceremony, the Commissioner of Police Ahmed Areef revealed that July 23 has been a remarkable and special day for the whole police fraternity. The day marks the sacrifices of Maldivian police force, said the Commissioner.

The Memorial Day function was attended by high level dignitaries from the police fraternity and had a moment of silence to tribute the policemen who died in service.
