Progressive Party of the Maldives (PPM) has stated that people have moved on from the violent disruptive clan politics of yesteryears, to embrace rule-based, progressive democracy of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom.
In a press statement issued, the ruling PPM strongly condemned Wednesday night's failed attempts by the opposition to incite violence on the streets of Capital Male', to disrupt the festivities of the 52nd Independence Day and the Official Visit of Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Nawaz Sharif. PPM said that Maldivians have moved from the petty, disruptive, clan-based politics that had repeatedly led to violence, intimidation, and defamation.
PPM noted that Maldivian people are peace loving citizens and would not heed to such actions of the public.
