"Terrorism threatens human progress, and human rights"

The Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations, Ambassador Ali Naseer Mohamed, has stated that terrorism and violent extremism represent the most profound threats to human progress and human rights. The Ambassador made the remarks in his statement at the United Nations General Assembly's plenary meeting on Global Counter Terrorism Strategy.

Ambassador Ali Naseer highlighted the strong measures Maldives has been taking in the global fight against terrorism and violent extremism, and in particular, against foreign terrorism fighters through the implementation of Counter Terrorism Act, Prevention of Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Act, both of which were enacted as part of the Government of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom's national policy on counter terrorism and counter radicalization.

In his statement, the Ambassador reiterated the Maldives is strongly committed to work with the international community in stopping and eliminating the menace of terrorism.
