Foreign Ministry to monitor safety of Maldivian in Nepal

The Ministry of Foreign affairs has stated it is closely monitoring the ongoing situation in Nepal following heavy rainfall and floods and is in touch with all Maldivian students residing in the affected areas.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said the Honorary Consul of Maldives in Nepal is also in contact with both the Ministry and the students in providing any required assistance.

In an exclusive interview with PSM News, Head of Public Information Unit of Foreign Ministry, Fathimath Najwa revealed that 33 Maldivians are residing at the flooded region. Najwa said that these Maldivians have enough water and food to last for a week. She further said that currently the flooded region does not have access to electricity and communication difficulties are being faced.

On the same note, she assured that the Ministry is communicating with the established Student Association in the capital city of Katmandu and would provide any required assistance. The flooded region is near the border of India and Nepal.
