Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee has met with his counterparts of Pakistan, Seychelles and South Africa.
The meetings were held on the sidelines of the 2nd Indian Ocean Coastal States meeting on Allocation Principles held at Bandos Island Resort and Spa, according to the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture. During the separate meetings held with the Fisheries Ministers of Pakistan, Seychelles and South Africa, discussions were carried out to strengthen relations between Maldives and Indian Ocean coastal countries to enhance the fisheries sector in Indian Ocean.

At the 21st session of the Indian Ocean Tuna Conference, Maldives has proposed an interim plan for rebuilding the Indian Ocean yellow fin tuna stock. The main purpose of the 2nd Indian Ocean Coastal States meeting on Allocation Principles is to sign a call of action which aims to fast-track the proposal by the Maldives to set control rules on skipjack tuna fisheries in the region. The meeting aims to review and formulate policies on fish harvest and fish catch quota regulations for countries to follow.
