Finance Minister says transforming economy key for development

Minister of Finance and Treasury, Ahmed Munawar has said that the aim of the administration is to transform the economy as it is a key element of the development of the country.

Speaking on Maldives Today TV programme aired on PSM News, Minister of Finance and Treasury Ahmed Munawar said after President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom took office in 2013, several economical developmental projects were conducted, which brought a huge improvement on the infrastructural gaps. The Minister noted that the country experienced huge infrastructural gaps and the biggest milestone of the government was improving in those areas.

Minister Munawar noted no island is left out when the government conducts developmental projects. The Finance Minister said that President Yameen not only commands, but also provides direct assistance and guidance in every such project.

Continuing on, Minister Munawar highlighted the improvements of Ministry of Finance and Treasury and assured that he will continue working on improving the ministry and its human resources. The Minister noted Finance Ministry needs to have prudential and financial policies in order to strengthen financial mechanisms.

With the growth momentum going on, the Minister emphasised on the importance of having enough saving initiations. It is one of the main reasons why the Finance Ministry is working on promoting savings before the end of the year, according to the Minister. He further noted the importance of saving for future economic growth.
