Two companies contracted to establish water systems in 5 islands

Ministry of Environment and Energy has contracted Mohan Mutha Exports Private Limited and Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) to establish safe drinking water systems in five islands.

At a special ceremony held at Ministry of Environment and Energy, Minister Thoriq Ibrahim signed agreements with Mohan Mutha Exports Private Limited and Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) to establish safe drinking water systems in five islands.

Under the agreement, Mohan Mutha Exports Private Limited was assigned with the development of water systems in Kendhoo Island of Baa Atoll, Gaafaru Island of Kaafu Atoll and Gan Island of Laamu Atoll. The Indian company will install RO plants and 50 ton storage tanks in both Kendhoo Island and Gaafaru Island while two 50 ton storage tanks will be installed at Gan Island along with a RO plant. The project would cost over 15 million rufiyaa and is funded by OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID) and the state budget.

Meanwhile, MWSC was contracted the development of water systems of Milandhoo Island of Shaniyani Atoll and Ungoofaaru island of Raa Atoll. The project will set up a 29-kilometre water supply network at Milandhoo Island, with the installation of an 82 ton RO plant. Furthermore, Ungoofaaru Island of Raa Atoll will house an 8-kilometre water supply network with an 86 ton RO plant. MWSC was contracted the project for a price over 87 million rufiyaa. The project is also funded by OFID and the state budget.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Minister Thoriq reiterated the efforts of the government in providing safe water supplies to Maldivians.
