Foreign Minister talks broadening work in international arena

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim has stated that the main purpose of working in international organisations such as the United Nations is to broaden the work done on the international arena and to attain the objectives.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the first ever Maldives Model United Nations conference (MVMUN), Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Asim highlighted that the role of Maldives in international bodies such as United Nations has broaden over the years. The Foreign Minister highlighted that to attain the objective of broadening the work done on international scale requires confident and dedicated youth.

The Minster further noted the importance of remaining well informed about both national and international affairs of the nation. In addition, Foreign Minister, Dr. Mohamed Asim revealed that the current administration is keen to equip young and talented people on the front line of the government.

The core objective of the MVMUN conference is to play a role in collaborating with youth beyond the borders to broaden the ideology and establish the diplomacy and the leadership while enhancing the potential to tackle the social and international affairs in benefit to the nation and the world in the near future.

In an interview with PSM News, Director General of MVMUN, Suha Ali revealed that the conference had 6 committees which discussed and debated on individual major topics in Maldives. Suha Ali further revealed that more than 200 delegates participated the conference this year. She assured that such conferences would be held at a grander scale in the coming years.

The delegates described the conference as a golden opportunity to gain knowledge and awareness of the national and global issues. In the closing ceremony, awards and certificates were conferred to the best performers of the debates of each committee. Participants of age 14-25 participated the conference which was held on August 25 and 26.
