Chinese naval vessels arrive in Maldives

Three Chinese naval vessel are in the Maldives on a friendly visit.

The three vessels which arrived in Maldives on Sunday morning will leave on Thursday. The navy vessels visiting Maldives on the friendly visit are Chinese Navy Vessel, Chang Chun, Jing Zhou and Shao Hu. The Chinese navy vessel Chang Chun is currently harbored at Male' Commercial Harbor.  

Upon arrival to Maldives, the Maldivian National Defence Force (MNDF) welcomed the servicemen on board the vessels at a ceremony held at the Maldives Ports Limited. During the visit, the navy vessels and MNDF will conduct joint exercises to further strengthen the relations between the two countries. MNDF has also invited the servicemen from the Chinese navy vessels to visit the MNDF training centre in Girifushi Island, and MNDF posts in the Islands.

A media visit is planned to be held on board one of the vessels on August 31.

The vessels were dispatched on a peace mission by Chinese President Xi Jingping on April 23. The vessels are set to visit 23 countries during the visit and conduct military exercises and activities in collaboration with visiting nations.
