Maldives play a very important role globally: AIBD

Director of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development (AIBD), Chang Jin has stated Maldives play a very important role in the global arena and urged the local media in Maldives to stick to the uniqueness of the country.

Speaking on Talk Maldives TV Programme, aired on PSM News, the Director of Asia-Pacific Institute for Broadcasting Development noted that Maldives is a small and unique country, which is quite active and play a very important role in the global arena.

Furthermore, the AIBD Director said local media in Maldives should always stick to the uniqueness of the country. Speaking about the relation between Public Service Media (PSM) and AIBD, the Director of the institute noted that PSM has always been supportive of the work conducted by AIBD. Chang Jin noted that AIBD has assisted PSM by providing many training programmes and assured that AIBD will continue to further improve the operations of PSM. He also said discussions were held with PSM to conduct media training programmes for journalists covering elections.

In September 2015, we conducted in Malay, an AIBD in country workshop for PSM, it was on children's television programmes. It was conducted by consultant from Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. He is a famous expert on Children's TV Program. This year in July we conducted another in country workshop for PSM in Maldives on HDTV production, with regards to makeup, lighting and set design.  

"I have discussed with your leadership that we are going to run an activity for the media in the elections. We are going to provide consultancy service in this field. And we are also looking into the possibility of social media new media for the promotion, we use the term digital marketing." Director of AIBD Chang Jin said. Director of AIBD noted that PSM has expanded and developed profoundly and praised PSM for having organized the AIBD General Conference held in August.

AIBD, established in 1977 under the auspices of UNESCO. The AIBD is mandated to achieve a vibrant and cohesive electronic media environment in the Asia-Pacific region through policy and resource development. AIBD currently has 26 full member countries, represented by 34 organisations, and 67 affiliate member organisations with a total membership of 101 representing 48 countries and regions and over 50 partners in Asia, Pacific, Europe, Africa, Arab States and North America.
