Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham revealed that a new loan scheme was introduced for students who go abroad in the sports scholarship to further study in additional areas. The Education Minister made the statement at the Milo Colors Award ceremony.
Speaking at the awarding ceremony of Milo Colors Award, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham noted that the number of students who attained the Colors Award increased by 17% compared to last year. In comparison to 2014, Minister Aishath Shiham stated that the number of students who achieved the award increased by 30 percent this year. She described the increment as a huge achievement.
Moreover, Minister Aishath Shiham highlighted that sport scholarship was granted to 11 students. The Minister also noted the priority given by the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to develop sports personalities in the country and praised the work of the administration for the efforts of youth empowerment.
Reiterating the commitment of the government to facilitate the youth with opportunities, Minister expressed that 19 students from atolls are brought to Male' under the sports scholarship and given professional assistance. She noted the importance of recognising the talent and skill demonstrated by the students in sports, within the schooling system. Continuing on, the Minister said that taking part in sports is not something that would diminish studying time, but rather instills time management skills and teaches responsibility to students.
Furthermore, Minister Aishath Shiham stated that the Colors Award, launched in 2014, is an initiative of the current administration to build up an image of winners from a very young age. A total of 69 students received Milo Colors Award this year.
