Maldives and Thailand discuss tourism and sports cooperation

Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand Kobkarn Wattanaravagkul has stated that the strategic economic agenda of current President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom, is an optimum action plan to achieve great horizons in the economic industry. Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand made this statement, addressing a press briefing.

Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand Kobkarn Wattanaravagkul who is on an official visit to Maldives, held discussions with various officials of the current administration. The Minister also paid a courtesy call on President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and discussed the possibility of increasing tourism and sports cooperation between the Maldives and Thailand, in the coming years.

The visiting minister also held a joint press conference with her Maldivian counterparts, Tourism Minister Moosa Zameer and Minister of Youth and Sports Iruthisham Adam to exchange information about the tourism and sports industry in both countries. Addressing the press conference Tourism Minister of Maldives Moosa Zameer noted how ties in the field have only gone from strength to strength since the inception of bilateral ties between Maldives and Thailand in 1979.  He highlighted that youth is an important aspect of an expanding economy and that human resource is the key for the tourism development. Noting that all countries have a lot to discover in the tourism industry of Thailand, the Minister of Tourism and Sports of Thailand highlighted the importance of staying loyal to the originality of the countries in a world of fast pace development.

The Minister of Economic development Mohamed Saeed also had a meeting with the visiting minister and her delegation.

The visiting minister also addressed the 3rd Maldives- Thailand Business Matching Forum.

In her key note address, she applauded the strategic economic action plan executed by President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom.  She stated that the current administration's goals such as establishing 50 thousand beds and expansion of the Velana International Airport are achievable goals.

The Minister of Economic Development Mohamed Saeed stated that many business opportunities have been opened under the effort of expanding relations with Thailand.

26 companies from Thailand joined the business matching forum which was held on September 28, 2017. This year's forum saw participation of food exporters and other types of suppliers.

According to the Ministry, the main purpose of the forum is to create contact between local businesses and businesses from Thailand.
