President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and the First Lady have met the Maldivian community residing in UAE.
Addressingthe gathering, the President Yameen underlined that the best ambassadors were not necessarily professional diplomats, but those who exemplify professionalism and excellence while abroad.
In his speech, he reminded all Maldivians to demonstrate respect for the norms and cultures of their country of residence, and expressed pride that Maldivians in the UAE were recognised as valued individuals. Reiterating the administration's commitment to curb terrorism and extremism President Yameen pointed out that the community was also a key partner in such efforts.
While addressing current challenges in the area President spoke candidly about the potential of Maldives to be a viable international port. He concluded the speech by speaking about creating a positive investment climate in the Maldives, noting that aspirations of Maldives should be to emulate the successes of nations like the UAE.
