The Government of Japan has donated medical equipment to Maldives, worth over USD 14 million. Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Kazumi Endo handed over the medical equipment to Minister of Health Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim.
Speaking at the event, Health Minister Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim said that some of the medical equipment handed over by the Japanese government has been brought to the Maldives and that the equipment will be distributed amongst hospitals and health centres in the atolls. The donation would greatly assist further improving health services provided in the islands, added Health Minister Nazim.
Speaking at the ceremony, Japanese Ambassador Kazumi Endo noted the remarkable achievements made by the Maldivian health sector, citing that Japan would continue to assist Maldives in its developmental endeavors.
The equipment donated by the Japanese Government include incubators, dental units, ventilators and other such equipment. The Japanese Government made a similar donation in 2013, by handing over medical equipment worth over USD 454,000. Japan has also donated medical equipment worth over USD 603,000 in April of this calendar year.
