State Trading Organisation (STO) has signed an agreement with Ministry of Environment and Energy to provide materials and equipment, worth over USD 8.6 million. Under this agreement STO would provide materials and equipment needed for the development of sewerage systems in 10 islands of Maldives. At the signing ceremony held at Ministry of Environment and Energy, Minister Thoriq Ibrahim and Chief Financial Officer of State Trading Organisation (STO) Mohamed Maahid signed the agreement.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim stated that only 37% of the total population of Maldives was provided with proper sewerage system prior to the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom. 75% of the total population of Maldives would be provided with proper sewerage system before the conclusion of the first term of President Yameen in office, revealed the Environment Minister.
Environment Ministry aims to complete the development projects of the sewerage systems within 12 months.
