Minister Thoriq urges citizens not to politicise services

Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has called on all citizens to refrain from politicizing services provided by the administration.

Minister Thoriq highlighted that the administration of President Abdullah Yameen Abdul Gayoom provides its services without any bias.

Minister Thoriq highlighted recent instances where some citizens have been hindering services provided to the Maldivians by the government. Minister Thoriq highlighted that, although island councils are meant to be mediators and coordinate in linking the government and the people, currently some island councils have been harboring political interests which hinder provision of services to the islands.

Minister Thoriq added that such efforts include, defamation and misinforming the public regarding the basic amenities provided by the state. Responding to allegations by the Mayor of Addu City regarding the project by the government to establish a fresh water system in the city, Minister Thoriq expressed disappointment regarding efforts by some to obstruct developmental efforts for political motives. He added that such efforts are unacceptable. The Minister reiterated the government’s stance that this administration does not prejudice in the provision of services to citizens.
