Government submits the supplementary budget to Parliament

Government has submitted a USD 32 million supplementary budget for parliamentary approval. The supplementary budget for the remainder of the year was submitted by the government in order to support medical sector developmental plans which exceeds the budget allocated for 2017.

Over USD 19 million from the supplementary budget was allocated for Aasandha health insurance coverage of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital. The supplementary budget also includes USD 1.69 million allocated for by-elections to be conducted by Elections Commission, USD 3.24 million for Maldives Police Services and USD 3.47 million for education sector.

Meanwhile, USD 2.59 million was allocated for the development of Kaadedhdhoo Airport in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. Submitting the supplementary budget for parliament committee discussion and approval, Minister of Finance and Treasury Ahmed Munawar said that the budget is submitted to support exceeding expenses of the government, allocated in the state budget.

The state budget for 2017 amounts to over USD 1.7 billion.
