Maldives holds ceremony to mark Victory Day

Maldives held a flag hoisting and guard mounting ceremony in remembrance of the Martyrs of November 3. Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) is conducting several activities to mark Victory Day.

It has been 29 years since Maldives attained victory over one of the major attacks on its independence and sovereignty. The day began with the special congregational prayer organised by MNDF, as part of the activities to mark Victory Day.

It was followed by a flag hoisting and guard mounting ceremony held at Victory Day Monument. The ceremony honored by the Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar, saw the participation of retired servicemen who fought for the victory.

Furthermore, MNDF has organised a special musical drill display at Victory Day Monument and the annual assembly of MNDF servicemen. In addition, the annual photo exhibition which portrays the events of Victory Day will be held at Hulhumeedhoo Island of Addu City on November 4 and 5.

19 Maldivians lost their lives in the attack on November 3, 1988. The day is marked in remembrance of the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country's sovereignty, independence and religion.
