Maldives assures commitment in regional cooperation

Addressing the opening ceremony of the 10th South Asia Economic Summit held in Kathmandu, Nepal, Minister of State for Economic Development Abdul Latheef Mohamed has assured the commitment of Maldives in regional cooperation.

The State Minister focused on the efforts initiated by the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to attract foreign investments for the development of Maldives.

State Minister Abdul Latheef Mohamed stated that positive outcomes are being experienced throughout Maldives under the efforts of the current administration to enhance the economy of the country.

Addressing the summit, Abdul Latheef Mohamed highlighted the numerous initiatives of the government to reform the facilitated business opportunities for women, shedding light on the main features of the economic agenda implemented by President Yameen.

Maldives is expanding its main airport with the vision to advance the economy, added State Minister Abdul Latheef.

The three day summit is organised by National Planning Commission and Ministry of Commerce of Nepal and South Asia Watch on Trade, Economics and Environment, with an aim to deepen economic integration and attain inclusive and sustainable growth in the sub-region. The main objective of the summit is to identify and prioritise challenges and opportunities in deepening regional economic integration for attaining goals of inclusive and sustainable growth for South Asia.

Over 200 delegates, including ministers, parliamentarians, government officials, diplomats, planners and think tanks from the South Asian countries are attending the summit.

The Maldivian Delegation consists of Minister of State for Economic Development Abdul Latheef Mohamed, Commissioner General of Customs Ibrahim Shareef Mohamed, Maldives Director of Social Affairs at SAARC secretariat Rishfa Rasheef, Senior Editor of Public Service Media (PSM) Hassan Ziyau, Programme Specialist at Ministry of Economic Development Ahmed Imthinan Farooq and Independent expert Aisha Niyaz. The Maldivian delegation will participate in various discussion forums focused on Deepening Economic Integration for Inclusive and Sustainable Development in South Asia.
