President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim have inaugurated the Hiyaa Housing Project, as part of the administration's housing policy. The ceremony was held at the Hulhumale Phase 2 area, where Hiyaa towers are to be developed.
A total of 10 thousand eighty housing units will be developed in 36 towers, which would include apartments of 1 bedroom, 2 bedrooms and 3 bedrooms. Private companies along with state companies and government offices are part of the first of its kind mega project.
The companies participating in the project include Public Service Media (PSM), Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC), Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL), State Trading Organization (STO), Island Aviation Services Limited, Bank of Maldives (BML), Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), State Electric Company (STELCO), Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC), Maldives Immigration, Maldives Customs Services, Maldives National University as well as Ministry of Islamic Affairs.
In addition to Hiyaa Housing Project a 7000 unit social housing project and a 1530 unit mid-to-high range housing project are currently underway in Hulhumale'. The Hiyaa Housing Project is aimed at resolving the housing issues being faced by around eighty thousand individuals of the population.
