Gender Minister calls on all to take a stand against child abuse

In a speech delivered on the occasion of World Day for the Prevention of Child Abuse, Minister of Gender and Family Aishath Zeneysha Shaheed Zaki stated that every child deserves the right of freedom and at the same time has the right to prevent them from abuse.

Gender Minister Zeneysha Shaheed Zaki said half of the cases filed with the ministry is about child abuse and highlighted that within the past 4years over 480 cases of child abuse has been filed with the ministry.

She revealed that most cases of child abuse consist of physical, psychological and sexual abuse. Noting the adverse effects of child abuse on the social and economic aspects of the nation, the minister called on all Maldivians to work against child abuse.

Minister Zeneysha noted numerous efforts by the administration of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to prevent child abuse in the Maldives. On this note, she expressed the importance of the public to be well aware of the current situation of child abuse in Maldives. She urged every individual to take a stand against child abuse.
