Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Shiham has inaugurated the National Literacy and Mathematics Strategy. National Literacy and Mathematics Strategy is compiled to develop the literacy and mathematics education and in order to enhance the education sector of the country.
The five-year strategy was compiled following relevant surveys conducted under the newly introduced curriculum in 2015.
Speaking at the ceremony, Education Minister Dr. Aishath Shiham noted the importance of delivering early childhood education at its fullest. The Education Minister added that the 2015 O'level exam results indicate the need to work on improving English and mathematical studies.
The new strategy will help teachers to eliminate differentiating children, said the Education Minister adding that the strategy will come into effect from the beginning of academic year 2018.
The National Literacy and Mathematics Strategy is compiled by National Institute of Education (NIA), in association with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF).
