The strategy was launched at the official event held to mark Work Prematurity Day in collaboration with Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), World Health Organization (WHO), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Ministry of Health.

The Child Health Strategy is based on components related to health of new born babies and provides a road map of strategic actions for ending preventable newborn mortality and stillbirth and contributing to reducing maternal mortality and morbidity. It also contains ways to reduce deaths occurring in preterm births.

Addressing the ceremony, Minister of State for Health Dr. Aishath Rameela highlighted the importance of working together towards achieving the goal of improving health of women and children. During the ceremony, Head of Child Health Department at IGMH Dr. Niyasha Ibrahim stated that it is important to invest in the health sector, while Head of Gynecology Department at IGMH Dr. Aseel Jaleel reflected on the difficulties faced due to lack of space faced at the hospital.

During the ceremony, Health Minister Nazim also released the prematurity care book compiled as an aid for mothers giving birth to premature babies.
