Minister of Defense and National Security Adam Shareef Umar has revealed that the government is currently attending to cases of shortage of staple food and cooking gas in various parts of country.
The Defense Minister revealed that so far, 5 islands have reported shortage of staple food and cooking gas. Mulah in Meemu atoll and Finey in Haa Dhaalu atoll reported shortage of cooking gas. The island of Finey in Haa Dhaalu atoll, Kudafari in Noonu atoll and Dharaboodhoo and Bilehdhoo in Faafu atoll have reported shortage of staple food.
The Defence Minister further stated that outlets of State Trading Organization (STO) across the country are currently attending to these cases of shortage in staple food and cooking gas. He assured that these atoll outlets have the capacity to cater to the current shortages.
The Defense Minister added that shortages have been reported by retailers and not households.
