6th session of Islamic Conference of Health Ministers commences

The 6th session of Islamic Conference of Health Ministers has commenced in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The conference organised by the Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) and hosted by the Ministry of Health of Saudi Arabia will conclude on December 7. The conference held every two years see the participation of high level delegates from all member states of OIC. This year the theme for the Islamic Conference of Health Ministers is "Health in All Policies".

During the conference, Minister of Health, Abdulla Nazim Ibrahim will highlight the national health policies and the achievements and challenges faced by the health sector of Maldives. The conference will discuss the OIC Strategic Health Plan of Action: 2014-2023, the promotion of cooperation between the member states in the area of health, promoting healthy lifestyle, prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases and response to health emergencies and disaster situations. The ministers will also deliberate on the issues related to mother and child health and nutrition, as well as the health conditions in occupied Palestine, including East Jerusalem and the occupied Syrian Golan.

Furthermore, on the sidelines of the conference, Health Minister Nazim will hold bilateral discussions with his counterparts of Saudi Arabia and UAE.
