International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has declared Maldives as the most developed in terms of Information Technology in the South Asia region. Maldives stands first in Information Communication Technology (ICT) development among SAARC countries, according to Measuring the Information Society Report published by International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The report published by ITU Measuring the Information Society Report 2017 scored Maldives with 5.25.
While Maldives is the most developed country in the region, Sri Lanka is ranked second the Afghanistan has been recorded as the least developed in Information Technology.
The countries were scored in regard to indicators such as the use of information technology among individuals, the use of latest technologies and how much internet is used in communication. The report consists of 176 countries.
World's most developed country in Information Technology is Iceland while South Korea was ranked in second place. Maldives stands at the 85th place among 176 countries taken for the study.
