Environment Minister Thoriq departs to Paris

Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim has departed to Paris to participate in One Planet Summit. Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim is participating in the Summit as the special envoy of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayyoom.

The summit is convened to foster high-level political impetus on climate action and intensify the mobilisation of all actors, local, national, regional and international, after exactly two years since the adoption of Paris Agreement for climate change in Paris. The key objective of the meeting is to discuss ways to accelerate the implementation of the Paris agreement, including discussions of ways to scale up finances for climate action and accelerating climate action.

Maldives, as the chair of Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS), has been advocating for accelerated climate action and finance.
