Speaker of the Maldivian Parliament Abdulla Maseeh has emphasised that Maldives seeks to establish fair and free trade agreements with the largest economies in the world.
Speaking at the gathering of Parliamentary Conference on World Trade Organisation (WTO), Speaker Abdulla Maseeh stated that trade opportunities must be independent. Speaker Maseeh also noted the importance of such international meetings for Maldives, since it strives to establish free trade agreements with one of the largest economies in the world. At the meeting, Parliamentarian Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik spoke on the importance of parliament members in establishing and enhancing international trade relations.
Parliamentary Conference on the World Trade Organisation (WTO) is jointly organised by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the European Parliament (EP). The aim of the Parliamentary Conference on WTO is to strengthen democracy at the international level by bringing a parliamentary dimension to multilateral cooperation on trade issues.
In this regard, the Conference provides legislators with the opportunity to examine developments in WTO, obtain first-hand information on the state of multilateral trade negotiations, and consider a possible parliamentary contribution to these multilateral processes. The meeting was held in the capital of Argentina, Buenos Aires from December 9 to 10.
The delegation attending the meeting from Maldives is lead by Speaker Abdulla Maseeh, who is accompanied by Deputy Speaker Moosa Manik and the Chair of the Parliamentary Finance Committee, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik. The delegation of Maldives, met with the attending delegation of European Parliament and expressed interest in establishing trade agreements and held relevant discussions.
