Local exports increase 99%, Imports decrease 5% in November 2017

Local exports increase while local imports decrease in November 2017 compared to the same period of last year, according to Maldives Customs Service. The latest statistics shows that imported goods to Maldives declined by 5% compared to November 2016. Goods imported amounted to over USD 207.7 million last November while the amount decreased to USD 201.2 million this November.

UAE dominates import destinations with 23% of goods imported to Maldives, while Singapore and India added 13% each. Meanwhile, 8% of goods were exported from China and Malaysia to Maldives.

Local exports increased 99% in November 2017 compared to the same period of last year. In this regard, Maldives exported goods worth of USD 12.6 million in November 2016, while goods worth USD 25 million were exported in the same month of 2017.

The main exported item from Maldives remains to be fish products manufactured by local companies. Maldives exported 36% of fish products to Thailand, 10% to France, United Kingdom and United States.
