President Yameen tours four islands of Noonu atoll

As part of President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom’s current tour of Noonu, Baa and Lhaviyani atolls, President Yameen has visited four islands of Noonu atoll on Sunday.The first stop in the President’s tour of Noonu atoll was the island of Maalhendhoo.Upon arrival, the President was greeted with a warm welcome from the community. As part of his visit, the President inaugurated the harbor of Maalhendhoo, and officially opened the Maalhendhoo mosque.

The next stop in the President’s tour of Noonu atoll was theisland of Hen’badhoo. 

President Yameen attended the ground breaking ceremonyfor the development of the sewerage system in Hen’badhoo Island. During his address to the community of Henbadhoo Island, the Maldivian President urged allMaldivians to work together for the advancement of the country and stresses on the importance of creating an environment inclusive of all alike. President Yameen highlighted the importance of creating a friendly environment which accepts everyone despite their differences and added that it can be achieved by abiding the rules and regulations. 

During this visit, the President inaugurated the harbour of Holhudhoo Island. The harbour in Holhudhoo Island is 900 feet long and 200 feet wide. During his address to the community of Henbadhoo, President Yameen stated that it is important to note the positive impacts of development projects rather than its negative impacts. President further stated that the government aims to develop outer islands at the same pace and level the Greater Malé Region.

The last stop of President’s trip to Noonu atoll was the island of Velidhoo. At a ceremony held at the harbour area of Holhudhoo Island, the President unveiled the harbour memorial in order to inaugurate the new harbour.  The new harbour in Velidhoo is 800 feet long and 250 feet wide. Addressing the residents of Velidhoo Island after inaugurating the island's new harbor, President Yameen stated that the residents of Velidhoo have always shown commitment for the betterment of the island.  Highlighting that the island council of Velidhoo boasts an opposition majority, President Yameen thanked the residents for the warm welcome he received.

During the tour, the President is expected to take part in ceremonies held to mark the completion of government projects, and inauguration of key projects in Baa atoll and Lhaviyani atoll.
