Maldives remains one of the safest destinations for UK tourists

The Maldivian Government has reiterated that the country remains one of the safest travel destinations in the world. In response to a travel advisory for UK tourists visiting the Maldives, Ambassador to UK stated in a statement that there have never been a fatal terrorist incident against a tourist in the Maldives. That is a record that Maldives is proud of it and that the government will work hard to maintain the status, said Ambassador Ahmed Shiaan.

Ambassador Shiaan noted that officials from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office assured that the revision is not particular to the Maldives or based on any specific threat to the Maldives. The Ambassador highlighted that the travel advisory for various other countries have also been updated to reflect the same information, using the exact same text adding that those updates are based on changes to the perceived threat level against UK citizens globally given the tragic domestic events in recent months rather than any changes in the situation in a country. Maldives have increased security at the airports to ensure absolute safety of both citizens and tourists, expressed Ambassador Shiaan.

Latest significant update to the UK Travel Advisory on Maldives was in September 2017, based on changes to the perceived threat level against UK citizens globally.
