Government contracts an India-based company for the Development of an Energy Efficiency Labeling programme in Maldives. With the completion of this programme, Maldives will be able to record the amount of energy consumed by products such as air-conditions, refrigerators and washing machines.
Ministry of Environment and Energy contracted Price Water House Coopers Private Limited with the Development of Energy Efficiency Labelling programme in Maldives. The contract was signed by the Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim and Partner at Price Water House Coopers Private Limited Amit Kumar.
Speaking after the signing ceremony, Environment Minister Thoriq Ibrahim stated that the main aim of the initiative is to reduce the amount of energy used in households. Speaking at the ceremony, Amit Kumar noted that the programme is important to Maldives as every household uses more than three gadgets consuming energy and the project will help tenants to reduce electricity bills.
The consultancy will see the development of a detailed methodology to issue energy efficiency labels for selected appliances along with necessary forms and documentation. It also includes developing a monitoring methodology for the programme, which is being conducted as part of the Strengthening Low Carbon Energy Island Strategies (LCEI) project. The programme is implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Energy, in association with UN Environment and with support from Global Environment Facility.
Price Water House Coopers Private Limited has to complete the programme within eight months for a cost of USD 77,940, according to the signed agreement.
