Foreign Minister concludes official visit to India

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohamed Asim has concluded his official visit to India, as the Special Envoy of President of the Maldives. During his visit from January 10-12, the Maldivian Minister Asim called on Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi and Minister of External Affairs of India Sushma Swaraj. During these meetings, both sides reflected on the close friendly relations between the Maldives and India. Minister Dr. Asim conveyed greetings from President Abdulla Yameen Abdul Gayoom to the Prime Minister of India.

Minister Asim reiterated the importance of further strengthening the historical ties between the two countries, highlighting President Yameen's "India First Policy". He further expressed gratitude to the Government of India for their valuable contribution towards the socio-economic development of the Maldives. Prime Minister Modi assured that the Maldives has, and will always remain, a close friend of India. India would extend its support in all areas of cooperation, assured the Prime Minister.

During the visit, Foreign Secretary of India Dr. S. Jaishankar, also paid a courtesy call on Minister Asim.
