EU delegation meets Ministers, Speaker of Parliament

The visiting high-level delegation of the European Union, led by Director of Asia and the Pacific at the European External Action Service (EEAS) Paola Pampaloni has held a meeting with the Minister of Defence and National Security Adam Shareef Umar, in which views were exchanged in areas of mutual concern. During the meeting, the Defence Minister briefed Director Paola Pampaloni on the efforts of the government in countering terrorism and violent extremism. Minister reiterated the importance of working together with international agencies in eliminating the threat of terrorism.

Furthermore, Paola Pampaloni called on the Minister of Environment and Energy Thoriq Ibrahim. During the meeting, discussions focused on the national development programmes and projects executed by Environment Ministry.

The visiting delegation also met with the Speaker of the Parliament Abdulla Maseeh, other senior officials of the government and opposition leaders. The visit reflects the mutual interest for strengthening EU-Maldives dialogue and cooperation.

The meetings allow reviewing the state of play of EU-Maldives cooperation and opportunities for further developments on various thematic issues such as the fight against climate change, environmental protection, the fight against terrorism and prevention efforts, and strengthening regional cooperation.
