Shainee: Nasheed accepts he cannot participate in elections

Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture Dr. Mohamed Shainee has affirmed that former President Mohamed Nasheed has admitted that there is no chance of running for presidency. Speaking to media on conclusion of the three-country tour of Africa, Fisheries Minister Shainee stated that Nasheed has accepted at the United Nations and European Union that there is no chance of running for presidency.

Minister Shainee revealed that Nasheed is now working to endorse a candidate who will follow his instructions. Nasheed aims to not give a chance for other parties to compete in the election and added that it explains the delay in announcing an opposition candidate, stated Minister.

Rejecting claims that the United Nations will decide whether Nasheed can run for presidency, Minister Shainee expressed that no international body can decide who runs for the presidency of Maldives.

Minister Shainee assured that incumbent President Yameen will win the election this year.
