Ambassador of Maldives to United Kingdom and European Union Ahmed Shiaan has stated that 2018 has started with full force and has a huge potential to be the most successful year Maldives has witnessed in the international fora. Speaking Talk Maldives TV programme aired on PSM News, Ambassador Shiaan said that various international delegations visited Maldives last year which showcases the growing interest of global cooperation with a small island state like the Maldives.

Speaking on the developments Maldives has achieved over the past four years in the international arena, the Maldivian Ambassador stated that Maldives has been successful in winning the trust of foreign countries which is proven by the close ties Maldives shares with various nations worldwide. 2018 has started with full force and has a huge potential to be the most successful year Maldives has witnessed in the international fora, highlighted the Maldivian Ambassador.

Ambassador Shiaan noted that various international delegations visited Maldives last year and added that it showcases the growing interest of global cooperation with a small island state like the Maldives. Shedding light on the potential of free trade agreements Maldives aims to establish, Ambassador Shiaan stated such agreements poses various benefits to the economy of Maldives. On this note, Ambassador Shiaan described the free trade agreement signed with China as one of the most successful ventures Maldives has attained in the international fora.

Continuing on, the Ambassador said that Maldives is working to establish additional free trade agreements with various other countries such as the United Kingdom and economically strong blocs such as the European Union. Ambassador Shiaan highlighted the foreign policy Maldives follows is based on the foundation of mutual respect and noted that the foreign policy also depicts the true spirit of patriotism and the spirit of staying true to the culture and traditions of the Maldivian society.
